We are a hockey club based in Barnstaple, North Devon. Until recently, the ladies' club (formally Taw Valley Hockey Club) and the men's club (North Devon Hockey Club) were separate teams. We made the decision to merge both clubs to create a more united and inclusive community with the North Devon hockey scene. We are continuing with the name, North Devon Hockey Club.
We aim to enrich the hockey experience for all players of all skill levels within our local area.
NDHC welcomes new members who are passionate about hockey, whether that’s seasoned veterans, newcomers and all in between. With two competitive men’s teams, two competitive ladies’ teams and a strong junior programme, there will be a place for everyone to thrive within an environment that players of all abilities can come together to learn, compete and most importantly, have fun!

Concession is for a student in education over 16, a retired person, and unemployed or part time person in receipt of Universal Credit.
Junior (Under 16): £80
Rusty and Recreational: £50 (training and up to 3 games a season).

Goalkeepers with all their own kit do not pay a club membership subscription but are required to register as a member in the same way as other members.

Culm Valley Hornets Tournament 2025
On Saturday 2 August, nine of North Devon’s intrepid men and women travelled down to Cullompton to compete in the Valley Mixed 7s tournament, in what would prove a day to remember.
Overcast yet warm, the stage was set for some thrilling hockey from every corner of the county and didn’t disappoint, with spirited play, knife-edge shootouts and even Hawaiian shirts in abundance throughout.
On the second side of the draw, North got off to a flying start by overturning a 2-1 deficit in fine fashion to win their opening match 3-2. Undeterred by flashes of brilliance from other sides, they kept the momentum going, registering a 4-1 victory in their second match. Next, despite some steadfast defending in the third game, North were undone by the pace and quick wit of the tournament’s youngest side, who ran out 5-2 winners. Seemingly unfazed, North dusted themselves off for the knockout round, where, following a tense 1-1 draw in normal time, they triumphed in a penalty stroke shootout to seal their spot in the final.
Meeting their match-three opponents once more, North adapted their game plan, opting to hit the youngsters on the counterattack, rather than relying on a possession-based approach. To their delight (and that of the crowd, interestingly), this paid off brilliantly, as North rifled home three goals in response to their adversaries’ opener. While the opposition clawed another back, North held on for a memorable tournament win. Beaming from ear to ear, the players collected their medals to cap off an amazing effort – especially from the ladies, who had no substitutes – against the region’s finest.
